Eric Erickson, of RedState, just published a great post.  He called it Republican Party, R.I.P. (1854 – 2016).

In this post Eric makes some tremendous observations.

However, His conclusion is flawed.

He said,

This then is why the Republican Party as we know it is coming to an end with only one way to avoid the splits that doomed the Whigs. …

The only way to save the GOP is for it to elect an outsider as its Presidential nominee who can lead the party in a fight against the President and the moral evils of the age.

He sees the battle between the President and the “moral evils of the age.”

The fact he sees “THE” President has the “KEY” Combatant is very interesting and telling.

In two years Obama will be gone.  Who then will be the KEY combatant?

I see completely different combatants than Erick does.

The key combatants in 21st Century battles are those that use information to make better predictions and those that don’t.

Essentially this would be Liberals vs Religious Conservatives.  Liberals use information as it is; not how they would like it to be.  Religious Conservatives, however, base their world view on a 1st Century fixed text.  Religious Conservatives don’t want any new information.  They have the Bible.  As Trump is always saying, “The Bible” is all you need (except his book.)
