The Georgia GOP voted to Strip Delta Airlines of a $40 Million Tax Break After Delta made a business decision to stay out of partisan politics.

This move clearly feeds the narrative that the GOP only hates “Government” when the Government is under someone’s else’s control. As a matter of fact, the GOP Lt Governor made it very clear that it is ok to use the power of the State if that power is being use to enforce a “Conservative” world view.

Specifically he said:

Just think about that for a second.   If a private business or citizen “attacks” (whatever, that means) “conservatives” (whatever that means) then it is perfectly acceptable for GOP Government to punish those businesses or citizens through the power of the State.

It is important to note that Delta did not “attack conservatives.”  All their did is cut ties with the gun rights group, after the Parkland, Fla., high school shooting on Feb. 14 that left 17 dead.  They did not “attack” anyone or any group.  They simply announced that it would end the NRA’s contract for “discounted rates through our group travel program.

Delta wrote:

“Delta’s decision reflects the airline’s neutral status in the current national debate over gun control amid recent school shootings,” read the statement posted to the Delta News Hub. “Out of respect for our customers and employees on both sides, Delta has taken action to refrain from entering this debate and focus on its business. Delta continues to support the 2nd Amendment.”

Delta tweeted last Saturday that they “will be requesting that the NRA remove our information from their website.”

Delta added: “Delta supports all of its customers but will not support organizations on any side of any highly charged political issue that divides our nation.”

Delta claims the move was made in order to take a “neutral” stand on the gun control issue, but came after a number of companies caved to pressure from anti-gun groups to cut ties with the civil rights organization.

United Airlines also notified the NRA that it would no longer offer a discounted rate for the NRA’s annual meeting.

The state House and Senate within hours of each other passed a sweeping tax bill that Republicans had amended to strip out a sales tax exemption on jet fuel. Atlanta-based Delta would have been the prime beneficiary of the tax break, which would have been worth an estimated $38 million.
