The former Governor of Arkansas appeared on Christian television show, Life Today, to deliver his message that our nation would be so much better off if we all just believed in God.
I put together a short video of my reaction to it.
I really don’t get it. If God makes the laws, and not man than did Slavery come from Man or God? Did the 13th Amendment come from Man or God? If slavery is against God’s natural laws, then how did it happen? And why did we need to fight a civil war and almost not pass the 13th Amendment? Why did we even need a 13th Amendment? And were those that were against the 13th Amendment Anti-God or Pro-God?
Huckabee, who accuses liberals of living in “Bubbleville” in his new book God, Guns, Grits and Gravy seems to live in a bubble of his own where atheists and progressives are the culprits of this “bad” America.
Huckabee so wishes to heal the nation by bringing them back to God.
Our nation is in real trouble. We’ve divorced ourselves from common sense. We’ve divorced ourselves from an understanding that we cannot survive as a republic if we do not become, once again, a God-centered nation that understands that our laws do not come from man, they come from God. Our founders really understood that and believed it.
(Except for the law against slavery, that came from Abraham Lincoln.)
Huckabee then continued and said that he wouldn’t want to create a theocracy but then agree that we lived in a “secular theocracy.”
Okay, yes, the First Amendment of our Constitution says that government cannot make any law respecting an establishment of religion. So secular is where we want to be, yet — gasp — there are so many states trying to fight gay marriage on religious grounds. Same with abortion. Someone should tell the founding fathers that Christians are trying to ruin things again!
Sorry, Mike. “Secular theocracy” just doesn’t actually agree. So, while Huckabee wants to say he doesn’t want to create an American Christian theocracy, that is exactly what he wants to do. In other words, a secular’s nightmare. He wants a nation that believes its laws are divine and come straight from a sky daddy to rid the country of evil atheists who ruin Christians’ folksy good times.
