Bill Maher asked this question, “Do you think social media made us bigger assholes, or we were bigger assholes and it just exposed us as being that?”
Maher posed the question to Nerdist Industries CEO, and host of @Midnight on Comedy Central, Chris Hardwick, after lamenting the PC culture of the internet where people “lay in wait” to attack someone for saying something they don’t agree with.
Hardwick made the case for seeking “understanding first” and attempting to reach common ground rather than fight. Probably a tall order for the internet, but it’s worth a try.
