The above is a video from the International Students for Liberty Conference (ISFLC), which took place February 17-19. The ISFLC is a non-profit focused on connecting students to libertarian ideas by supporting campus libertarian groups.
Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton was brought out to give contrary views on libertarian foreign policy, and students were invited to ask him questions. One student, David West, asked a pointed question about blowback that referenced his time serving as a member of the Third Ranger Battalion in Iraq. West is now circulating a YouTube video of the question under the title John Bolton Dodges Question; Insults Anti-War Veteran. The link-aggregator Reddit has picked up the video and much conversation has resulted.
The key to the question was the Libertarian view of non-interventionism in foreign policy and the non-aggression principle.
The question was, why are we there and do we need to be there. The answer was, it is not your right to question why we are there and if you don’t like it, there are channels you can go through to express your concerns.
My thinking is that Bolton does what many do, he did not listen to the question or try to move the intellectual discussion forward.
What do you think?
